The project Man Verde seeks to disrupt the everyday experience of the audience, introducing them to a physically and virtually unusual world. The virtual experience emerges from the darkness. An interactive animation depends on our action to be generated, while VR glasses prevent us from seeing what is outside. The limitation of our view allows us to reconstruct a new perception of the environment we inhabit. It proposes a lens, which for once is not placed on the gaze, but is inhabited from the inside, from the rest of the body, from touch and connection.
The virtual world generated is not independent from our outside world. Public must engage carefully with the outside world in order to build this space. It is not a retreat to escape from the burning forest. It is the chance to see our own space anew, and to imagine what it could be if our hand cared for.
The animation emerges and grows each time in a unique way, and scales in a rich and vast natural landscape made of glowing and flowing nanoparticles. The installation breaks with the way we are used to perceiving and inevitably causes a fissure in our everyday representation of the environment. The built landscape, which in its construction has destroyed a large part of the natural world, is in this installation infiltrated with natural elements, and with a digital world that imagines what space could be like, and how we could connect with it.
Man verde is a rhizomatic research project which grows in dialogue withthe public and with researchers from different academic areas. The project, which includes a virtual reality and physical installation, a documentary, questionnaires and different information panels, is an interactive process where participants draw and inhabit its evolution.
VIRTUAL R00TS
Vitual Roots is an artistic collective formed after studying together at the Central Saint Martins,UAL. Composed by Anna Strøe and Noa Rodríguez with our work we try to contribute to the development of a more organic technology. We want to help build an imagination in which we are increasingly aware of the physical and material dimension of the technological world and the immaterial dimension of the natural world. That is, to make a world aware of the implication of the resources and materials used in technology, and of the incalculable and complex value of natural systems. We ascribe our work to the stream of Art and Science, in the sense that we seek methodologies from very diverse areas such as Neuroscience, Big Data, Biology, Painting, Artificial Intelligence and Virtual Reality, with the aim of developing interactive artistic pieces and performance.
